Saori Honorato on Crypto Journalism, Regulation and Women in the Industry

Saori Honorato, Editor-in-Chief at Portal do Bitcoin, on women in crypto journalism and regulation

Bitcoin entered the life of the subject of our latest Women Leading the Way interview almost by accident. In 2020, while struggling to find work during the pandemic, she began writing for the blog of a crypto company. Back then, the company paid her in its native token. Gradually, it turned into a subject she genuinely wanted to understand and write about.

We’re delighted to announce that our latest Women Leading the Way interview with Saori Honorato, Editor-in-Chief at Portal do Bitcoin, is now live!

Inside, Saori explains how her perception of crypto changed after visiting El Salvador’s Bitcoin Beach in 2021. Seeing people use Bitcoin in their everyday lives made the technology feel much less abstract. For her, one of its most meaningful use cases remains financial access for people excluded from traditional banking systems. The same is true for those affected by censorship.

At the same time, her work in Brazil exposed her to a very different side of the industry. After years of covering pyramid schemes, failed projects and illicit activity, Saori sees regulation as an important part of crypto’s maturation. As she puts it: “A journalist’s job, regardless of the beat, is to report the facts, no matter how hard they are to hear.”

We also discussed what it means to build a career in a sector that remains heavily male-dominated. Saori points to a familiar problem at industry events. In her words, events often invite women to speak about “women in crypto.” Yet, even beyond those conversations, panels on regulation, technology and markets are still largely occupied by men.

So, her primary advice for female professionals entering financial, tech or crypto journalism is to write, publish, build a visible body of work.

“Trust your potential, trust your intelligence, and let your work speak for itself.”
