Just five years ago, Mahsa Doorfard was a crypto trader. Today, she helps decide which blockchain projects are worth backing.
The Drofa Comms team is glad to welcome Mahsa as the latest hero of our Women Leading the Way interview series! Mahsa is a Sales and Marketing Manager at coinIX, a Hamburg-based blockchain venture capital firm. She has spent years building at the intersection of investment, education, and community. This has made her one of the defining voices for women in blockchain VC.
During the interview, we dived deep into her story dating back to 2019. The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 proved to be a turning point. She went deeper into the technology and soon began building educational content for wider audiences.
Naturally, this led her to a marketing role at a DeFi protocol. Later, in January 2023, she made the move to coinIX. There, she manages investor relations, conference representation, and ecosystem-building. She is also actively involved with the Hanseatic Blockchain Institute, SheFi, and Global Women in VC.
In the interview, Mahsa talks about what separates Web3 projects that survive from those that don’t. Her take cuts through a lot of the noise: “The strongest projects tend to be extremely clear on the problem they’re solving. They are not building just because of the Web3 hype — they actually look at where decentralisation can offer real value.”
She is equally candid about the barriers women still face. Tight-knit networks, unequal capital access, the pressure to stay publicly visible — she names them all. Even so, she is genuinely optimistic.
Her advice to anyone considering entering the space makes that clear: “The biggest mistake you can make is thinking you need to ‘catch up’ on everything first. You don’t.”
It is a conversation grounded in real experience. It covers what makes Web3 projects last, the barriers women still face, and where Mahsa sees the biggest opportunities today.
